Chared Lucky Arrow

Before Shimmer passed away, I had reached out to Rachel, who helped her grandfather, Ed Seamann of Chared’s Appaloosa, to let her know about Shimmer’s diagnosis and eventual passing. I wanted to thank her and her grandfather again for allowing me to purchase Shimmer. It was also a reach to hopefully own part of Shimmer’s line again through her daughter, Quill (Imnahas Indian Quill), and finally have a Char Eds Lucky Cloud foal. I have always loved their breeding, and as a bonus, they were in the state where I lived, Nebraska. Unfortunately, Ed had passed away, and his herd was dispersed, with Rachel retaining two mares, Quill and her mare.

The family knew Quill had been bred to Char Ed's Lucky Cloud by Ed, but they did not think she had taken it. So, when Artemis was born on June 26, 2021, it came as a major surprise to them. I accidentally found out about Artemis when Rachel posted a picture of Quill and a brand-new Artemis together and had to ask who that little foal was. Soon after, I was told that Artemis was mine if I wanted her, which was a huge yes. Then comes the long wait for her to come closer to home.

Fast forward to late January 2022. Quill, Rachel’s mare, and Artemis were on their way home from late Ed’s property, coming closer to me, about an hour away, rather than two and a half. I would finally meet Artemis and start our journey of so many firsts. One primary task was to get her halter broken and prepare her to bring her closer home to me. This was all going to be an exciting, rewarding experience and maybe one kick to the butt.

With a lot of outside help, Artemis was halter-broke, vetted, and ready to come home around June. She did great on her ride to her new home and was finally weaned from her dam, Quill. I immensely enjoyed my time with Artemis and the mares and miss those days. However, I am delighted to have Artemis closer to home and to continue strengthening our bond.

Artemis is growing into a gorgeous mare, and working with her has been a joyful, happy experience, even when we end up struggling together. I could never thank the Seamann family enough for allowing me to have Artemis, and hopefully, I will be able to achieve great things under the Chared name in the Appaloosa and Pinto show pen with her. Artemis is a beautiful blessing to add to the family, and I can’t wait to see all we can accomplish from the ground up to the saddle and how we come together to work.
